Things To

Do

Seillans*, our local village,  is a small ‘village perché’ (perched hill-top village) overlooking the plain between the southern Alps and the Massif d’Esterel, which borders the sea between Cannes and Saint-Raphaël.  It is a short drive (5 mins) or a pleasant 30 minute walk away, a picturesque medieval town. It is  classified amongst the ‘most beautiful villages of France‘.   With fountains, winding cobbled streets, shaded squares, restaurants and cafés, this enchanting village invites you to relax alfresco and watch village life go by. There is a bakery, a small supermarket, a chemist and a ‘tabac’. There are 3 excellent restaurants and a number of bars and cafes, offering light meals and refreshments.

There is something for everyone in this beautiful region. Art, history, leisure, activities,  walking, cycling, water sports, traditional Provencal markets and many excellent restaurants (apart from the delicious dinners at la Bastide).

Water sports

White water rafting, canoeing, pedaloes  and floating trampolines are on offer at the Gorge du Verdon (45 minutes) and  Lac St Cassian (15 minutes).  Lovely places to spend the day en ‘famille’ with lakeside beaches and snack bars.

THINGS OF INTEREST TO DO IN THE AREA

This area is rich in art, markets, vineyards, water sports and activities, walking cycling and much more.  Relax by the pool, hire a pedalo or hike in the hills, the choices are plentiful and varied.

Vineyards

Chateau d’Escalan (Whispering Angel) – 40-minute drive from the villa, on the same road are many other vineyards to visit.

Chateau Saint-Martin – near the coastal town of Sainte-Maxime (50 minutes). There is also a regular boat shuttle between Sainte-Maxime and Saint-Tropez (saves on the horrible traffic known on this road in the summer), we would say this a fantastic day out.

Chateau de Berne – famous for its square bottle and not your 5 euro bottle of wine! Almost 1 hour drive from the house but they have gorgeous grounds as well as a great bistro so worth the drive.

Other things

Gliding at the Aeroclub – drive out of Fayence and its about 5 minutes on the right. If you would like to do this we would suggest you drive down there and check the availability. It is around 100 euros per person for 20 minutes in the air. The gliders path goes over our house.

Lac de Saint- Cassien – you would have driven past this on your way from the Airport, its about 30 minutes from the house. Fantastic for a fun day out. Fresh water, padellos with shoots off it!, fabulous, also some great little cafes for lunch right on the waterfront.

Gorges du Verdon – Stunning freshwater lake and gorge about 1 hour drive towards the West. If you decide to go here you should stop off at the lavender fields on the way at Sainte-Croix du Verdon.

There are a few tennis courts dotted around the area both in Fayence and Seillans – pre-booking necessary, please let us know if you would like any more information on this.
